  • Given the vastness of the mobile gaming industry, was inspired to create a game in a familiar and accessible genre.

  • The goal was to craft a simple and easy-to-play game, that resonates with the ease and enjoyment that many players seek in mobile gaming.

  • The concept for "Paper Pilot" was elegantly simple: the longer the user keeps their thumb on the screen, the higher the paper aeroplane would go.

  • However, the challenge lay in avoiding collisions with the upper or lower ground and navigating through obstacles in the middle.

  • This straightforward yet engaging gameplay mechanic brought players a delightful and immersive mobile gaming experience.

  • In the world of these types of games, map generation is typically automated.

  • So, had to develop systems that ensured obstacle placement didn't lead to overlaps and that the coin generator wouldn't mistakenly place coins within the obstacles.

Identifying Unique Challenges

  • We introduced a marketplace where users could utilize the in-game coins they had collected to purchase new planes.

  • However, we encountered a unique challenge - our designer's limited experience led to scaling issues with many of the planes.

  • As a result, we had to revisit Maya to rectify these scaling problems, ensuring that the planes' colliders were properly adjusted.

The game was supposed to be cross-platform, hence I researched games of similar capabilities and studied their design. Also wanted stuff in the game which felt new and not some design being continued from years ago.
